The Sun/Moon midpoint is representative of the merging of masculine and feminine energy. A positive charge and a negative charge. Yin and Yang. It represents Husband and Wife, Mother and Father. Close relationships, marriage. One’s parents.
In childhood, activations of the Sun/Moon midpoint tend to be more apparent in the lives of the child’s parents. I was a child the last time Saturn passed directly over my Sun/Moon midpoint, and at this time, my mother and stepfather separated. I personally did not feel sad, or adversely effected — but as an ending, it was most certainly a Saturn event.
In adulthood, Sun/Moon midpoint activations will more likely deal with your own intimate relationships, but can still point to issues involving the parents as well. For example, Saturn was transiting over the Sun/Moon midpoint of King Charles 3 when Prince Phillip (his father) died.
Speaking of the Royals, I found it interesting that Chiron was conjunct with Queen Elizabeth’s Sun/Moon when Diana and Charles separated. Perhaps the Sun/Moon midpoint can also be an indicator for one’s children.
In any case, the Sun/Moon midpoint is hyped up a lot when it comes to romantic relationships. But it appears to apply to any close relationship. Some have said that this midpoint represents the soul of a person.
Midpoints can be activated via transits, secondary progressions, solar arcs, primary directions, solar returns, and so forth. (Personally, I just use transits, secondary progressions, and solar arcs.) I find the conjunctions most potent, but oppositions, squares, semi-squares, and sesquisquares are applicable as well.
Activations of the Sun/Moon Midpoint
Sun/Moon = Sun: The active, logical, “male” principle is emphasized.
Sun/Moon = Moon: The receptive, intuitive, feelings-oriented “female” principle is emphasized.
Sun/Moon = Mercury: News and/or communications regarding one’s personal relationships. Thinking about marriage or commitment. Making agreements or signing documents as a couple. Important conversations. One’s ideas about love. Thoughts and ideas that are etched into the soul of a person.
Richard Ramirez had this via secondary Progression in 1973. The experience of a traumatic, “soul shaping” event.
Richard Ramirez’s much older war criminal cousin, Mike, had a significant influence on young Richard. As Richard went through puberty and developed his sexual interests, he was shown polaroids of dismembered and decapitated women that his cousin had raped and killed in Vietnam. It is believed that when violent imagery is intermingled with sex, the developing mind has trouble separating the 2 — and a sexual sadist is “born”. When Richard was 13, Mike shot his wife in the face in front of Richard during a dispute. While Richard would later describe the incident as “fascinating,” those close to him noted that he became “sullen and withdrawn” afterward.
It is worth noting that Richard’s 3rd house Mercury was direct and conjunct to the South Node in the natal chart. He was about 2 years old when Mercury went retrograde in his progressions. By the time of his murder spree in 1985, progressed Mercury was stationing direct.
Additionally, Mercury is the ruler of his 7th and 9th houses.
Sun/Moon=Venus: A harmonious time for a love relationship, should other transits/directions be favorable. Enjoyment of comforts as a couple. If it’s a transit of Venus, perhaps you’ll go out on a romantic date…or a date involving art. Generally, you’ll be feeling good in your relationships
Sun/Moon=Mars: Increases sex drive and/or “procreative urge.” Increases ambition as a couple. There can be aggression or quarrels within one’s relationships at this time. Physical activities
Sun/Moon=Jupiter: Expansion of the relationship in some way – perhaps an engagement, or joint success in some endeavor. The conception or birth of a child is a possibility. An optimistic time for one’s relationships.
Angelina Jolie had this via Solar Arcs in 2002 when she adopted her first child.
Sun/Moon= Saturn: Difficulties and inhibitions within one’s relationships. There may be a sense of loss or futility. There can be loneliness or depression. Illnesses can take a toll on the relationship. Divorces or separations are possible.
Angelina Jolie had this via Solar Arcs when she and Billy Bob separated. Interestingly, they had announced the adoption of Maddox just before announcing their separation. Arc Jupiter was conjunct with the Sun/Moon about a month prior to Arc Saturn squaring it!
Sun/Moon = Uranus: In the best case, it will bring some excitement to one’s relationships. Perhaps trying new things together. Generally, this can bring disruptions to the relationship – on again/ off again. You or your partner will have an increased need for freedom, independence, and perhaps novelty. Sudden and unexpected changes to one’s relationships. Again, conception or giving birth could be a possibility.
Sun/Moon= Neptune: Deception or misunderstandings within a relationship. There may be a tendency to idealize one’s partner and be let down as a consequence. Not seeing one’s relationships clearly. There is also a possibility that an illness will impact the relationship.
Sun/Moon = Pluto: Transformative events which impact one’s relationships – causing drastic changes. Possibility of pregnancy/birth. One may also be at risk of entering into controlling or abusive relationships at this time. Power struggles within intimate relationships. A change to power dynamics.
Angelina Jolie had this via Solar Arc when she married Brad Pitt
Sun/Moon = Node: Significant meetings. You may meet someone at this time who will be instrumental in your life. It need not be a spouse or romantic attachment, but it will be a “soul attachment”. If the South node is directly on the midpoint, it may be that such a person is leaving your life.
Sun/Moon = Ascendant: Being open and vulnerable with other people. A feeling of security in one’s interactions. An ability to relate well with other people
Sun/Moon = Midheaven: Changes in one’s relationship status; engagement, marriage, divorce
Angelina Jolie had the progressed Midheaven conjunct to her Sun/Moon midpoint when she married Billy Bob Thornton
*When transit Uranus was on my Sun/Moon midpoint, I had a sudden awakening of sorts in which I stopped pursuing a decade-long dead-end relationship, and started dating other people. During this time, I met my current partner. Also worth noting, Uranus is the modern ruler of my 7th house. A planet’s rulership of the houses will make a bit of a difference in how midpoints are activated.
*When transit Chiron was on my Sun/Moon midpoint, my partner nearly died of multiple organ failure and this changed both of our lives dramatically.
*When transit Ceres was on my Sun/Moon, nutrition became a focus. My partner had to adopt a restrictive diet, so I learned how to cook without salt, and started baking my own bread.
