The Sun/Pluto midpoint put in the simplest terms is the Point of Power and Transformation. On its own it can show:
- Intensity and power struggles, particularly with authority figures. There may be a drive to obtain power and control. In extreme cases, there can be life-or-death struggles and threats to one’s health.
- Psychological depth, inner probing, and self-analysis. Exploration of one’s motivations, desires, and fears. Personal transformation and empowerment. Profound inner changes and big shifts in identity, beliefs, and values. Sometimes this is brought about by a crisis or other intense life experience.

On the day that Vulgar Display of Power was released, the transit Sun was on Dimebag Darrell’s Sun/Pluto midpoint.
Moon = Sun/Pluto:
Intense emotional experiences including passion, jealousy, possessiveness, or obsessions. Sometimes there is a need to suppress these feelings. Other times, it can be an opportunity to do transformative emotional work in which deeply buried emotions are confronted and finally dealt with.
In March 1971 Jim Morrison and his long-term girlfriend Pamela Courson moved to Paris. Patricia Kennealy (a woman he had a brief affair with) was absolutely obsessed with him, believing their relationship to be something more than it actually was. Vince Neil was charged with battery and disorderly conduct after an “altercation” with an ex girlfriend. Solar Arc Venus was in opposition to his Sun/Pluto midpoint at this time.
Mars = Sun/Pluto:
Intensifies one’s drive and ambitions. Working long hours to the point of exhaustion. Ruthlessness. Can show major successes as well as powerful attacks.
Marilyn Manson had this via secondary progressions at the time of the Columbine Shootings, for which he was scapegoated.
Prince had Arc Mars square Sun/Pluto in 1982. It was during this year that he released the album “1999,” marking a pivotal moment in his career. This album not only introduced his collaboration with The Revolution but also marked his debut in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. Another notable milestone resulting from this album’s release was a Grammy nomination for the single “International Lover.” It should be noted that as a Scorpio Ascendant, Mars is his chart ruler.
JFK had Transit Mars opposite his Sun/Pluto when he was assassinated.
Fairuza Balk had this via secondary progression for 1996’s The Craft. She portrayed a power-hungry young witch. This is arguably her most famous and memorable role.
Bjork had transit Mars square to her Sun/Pluto midpoint at the time her first child was born.
Jupiter = Sun/Pluto:
Establishing one’s success. Powerful urge to expand. Opportunities having to do with anything Jupiter-related (Law, philosophy, international travel, education, etc.)
Bjork began her career as a solo artist while transit Jupiter was making a direct hit to her Sun/Pluto midpoint.
Saturn =Sun/Pluto:
Being faced with a difficulty and ruthlessly overcoming it. A restriction on one’s power / feeling oppressed by someone (or something) more powerful than oneself. Separations and endings.
Chloe Sevigny had her first child at the age of 45 while transit Saturn (the lord of “age” and “time”) was conjunct with her Sun/Pluto
Vincent Gallo was 12 when transit Saturn made a direct hit to his Sun/Pluto midpoint. He claims to have been committing petty crimes for the mob at this time – stopping when a “Godfather-like gangster” took him aside to talk him into pursuing a legitimate career rather than continuing with a life of crime
Transit Saturn squared Mickey Rourke’s Sun/Pluto in 1971. He suffered a concussion around this time and was told by doctors to take a year off from boxing.
Jodi Arias murdered Travis Alexander when transit Saturn was conjunct to her Sun/Pluto.
Uranus = Sun/Pluto:
Can indicate the necessity to completely reorganize one’s life in response to unforeseen circumstances. There can be acts of rebellion or engagement in revolutions, riots, or reform movements. Can also signify abrupt, radical transformations and an intense preoccupation with unusual concepts, interests, or problems.
Euronymous had this Natally. Euronymous was a “founding” figure in the early black metal scene. He projected a really “extreme” image and some of his antics caused others within the scene to dislike him. For example, his roommate/bandmate committed suicide and Euronymous’ first move was to go out, buy a camera and photograph the body for use on an album cover. It’s alleged that he kept fragments of the guy’s skull and doled out the pieces to those in the scene that he felt were “worthy”. Soon after this event, he was murdered by Varg Vikernes...and those who knew Euronymous were indifferent about it, at best.
Vince Neil joined Motley Crue in 1981 while transit Uranus was on his Sun/Pluto midpoint. He also got married the same year. (Uranus made direct hits a few times. I don’t have the exact dates for these events, however)
Neptune=Sun/Pluto:
Self-sacrifice can occur due to being highly susceptible to manipulation. Can be more readily influenced by others in general as a person is more inclined to give their power away. There may be vocational difficulties as well as a decrease in one’s strength and vitality.
Vincent Gallo was married for 10 weeks while Transit Neptune was opposing his Sun/Pluto midpoint. He’s quoted as saying, “I can’t remember a day with her, but I think she was nice sometimes.’

In my opinion, this places more emphasis on “fate” than on free will when it comes to the significations of Pluto (life/death/rebirth, endings, and new beginnings, power, control, obsessions, intensity, etc)
Transit Pluto was conjunct to Vince Neil’s Sun/Pluto midpoint when his 4 year old daughter died of cancer.
Transit Pluto was square Rex Brown’s Sun/Pluto on the release date of Vulgar Display of Power
Node=Sun/Pluto:
This is similar to “Pluto=Sun/Pluto” in that other people (or forces) outside of oneself figure heavily in events that occur. There’s a certain inevitability and sense of “providence”
After a couple years in foster care, Courtney Love was legally emancipated at age 16. She went to Japan and supported herself as a topless dancer for 2 months before being deported. Transit Chiron was square to her Sun/Pluto at the time. At the end of the year, (1980) the transiting North Node made a direct hit.
The South Node was conjunct Vince Neil’s Sun/Pluto in 1984 when he was involved in a fatal car accident while under the influence. His passenger was killed, and 2 occupants of the other car involved were seriously injured.

Ascendant=Sun/Pluto:

The Solar Arc Ascendant was square to Courtney Love’s Sun/Pluto in 1984 when she underwent a rhinoplasty procedure. She’s quoted as saying, “That schnoz was not taking me anywhere but radio. […] I got my nose fixed and in six months the world changed.”
MC=Sun/Pluto:
Similar to the Ascendant. Will often relate to changes in social status and events concerning the career or one’s parents.
Solar Arc Midheaven was on Courtney Love’s Sun/Pluto midpoint when she was legally emancipated at 16. Shortly after, she moved to Japan and worked as a stripper there for 2 months before being deported.
Chiron=Sun/Pluto:
Marilyn Manson had Solar Arc Chiron opposite his Sun/Pluto in 2019 when he was accused of sexually assaulting multiple women.
8th house Cusp=Sun/Pluto:
Now this is really interesting…and perhaps just a coincidence. I was looking at the progressed chart of Per Ohlin (alias “Dead”) for the date of death. There isn’t a birth time available for him, so I set the chart up as I normally do for “no birth time” charts. I used a Sunrise chart, and my default house system is Polich. Normally I use either Equal or Whole signs with Sunrise charts, but since I was only looking for movements of the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars I didn’t change the house system.
Anyway, I noticed that the progressed 8th house cusp was smack dab on his Sun-Pluto midpoint at the time of his suicide. Again, it is probably just a coincidence…but I thought it was an interesting one worth noting!
