Matthew Perry’s chart is notable in connection to the October 28th eclipse:
It activated his Moon – Saturn opposition, and the T square that it forms to his Ascendant.
Activations involving a hard-aspected natal Saturn are frequently seen at the time of death– particularly when Saturn is associated with either the Ascendant or 6th house – both of these houses have a huge influence over the body. Matt Perry’s 6th house of health is ruled by Saturn. Natal Saturn is square to the Ascendant.
What we know of the circumstances: he drowned in a hot tub.
His Moon — activated by the eclipse — is ruler of the 12th house.
12th house = unconsciousness. His 12th house is in a water sign (Cancer), as is the ruler of his 12th house (Fallen Moon in Scorpio)
His Sun is also activated by the eclipse. How, you ask? It’s antiscion (or shadow point) is at 3.49 Taurus! When a planets’ shadow is “hit” by a transit, we can frequently see events unfold.
The Sun is another indicator for the vitality of the body. Aside from the eclipse’s influence – Natal Sun was receiving a quincunx aspect from Neptune in the 8th house (death) and Pluto in the 6th house (health). Sun is also the ruler of the Ascendant (the body)
Two quincunxes connected by a sextile is what is referred to as a YOD. This is also sometimes called, “god’s finger” or “the finger of fate. In this case, Neptune and Pluto are both pointing at the Sun, demanding an adjustment of sorts. Yods emphasize the planet that is being pointed to.
With Neptune quincunx the Sun in particular – there are often health challenges. You must wonder, how might drugs (prescribed or “recreational”) be related to his untimely passing? We know there’s a history of alcohol and drug abuse. Neptune can often indicate this.
Look at Natal Neptune in the chart – it forms a tight square aspect with the Sun. The Sun in this chart was being challenged by Neptune – both in the natal chart and in transits.
Now – an eclipse is not always something to be feared. There are dozens of other things – good and bad – that an eclipse can bring. Sometimes a career change can be indicated. New relationships, marriages, engagements, births of children, financial windfalls, a life-changing vacation – all nice things. These can coincide with eclipses as well. So don’t fear if you see an eclipse playing out heavily in your chart!
Anyway…there were a couple of other energies at play in Matt Perry’s chart. Look at the transiting Mars-Jupiter opposition. This is activating his Natal T-square between Moon/Saturn/Ascendant. Mars-Jupiter is associated with over-optimism and risk-taking. Maybe he was on a medication that had contraindications with hot-tub use – and thought “what’s the worst that could happen?”
Heat can drop the blood pressure to dangerous levels, often resulting in fainting – or “loss of consciousness”. We do see multiple indications for this in the chart.
The transiting Saturn/Chiron Midpoint = transiting Uranus/Pluto midpoint = Transit Neptune. All are in the sign of Pisces. We’ve already looked at Neptune’s role – on its own, just being “Neptune”.
Neptune on the Uranus/Pluto midpoint can show a change in body rhythms (pulse, blood pressure)– connected to drugs (pharmaceutical or recreational.)
Saturn/Chiron – in my opinion is connected to “sad events”. In Magi Astrology, Saturn-Chiron is connected to heartbreak. Theoretically, we can extend this to literal heart trouble in relation to a Neptunian “agent”. We don’t have the details currently, but I would not be at all surprised if the Coroner’s report shows that the drowning was caused by a cardiac event or something blood pressure related.
